Since 2022, more than 38,000 migrants have been sent to Chicago from the southern border.

The request comes six weeks after the mayor declined to join Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle in setting aside more money to confront the humanitarian crisis.
