Dan: and to find their family.

All four teams continue their journey to discover family and win $50,000.
Starting in Washington, D.C., they now continue on their own paths on different sides of the country.
In the south, Team Blue in North Carolina and Team Green in Louisiana.
In the west, Team Red hugs the Oregon coastline and Team Black pushes south through Idaho.
Where's the finish line?
That is still a mystery.
♪ Coming off their first strike of the race, Team Black, John and Rebecca, say goodbye to Rebecca's cousi, Bud with a homemade gift.
In previous seasons, the relatives have always given gifts to the contestants and we thought it was a good idea to give back.
We have something for you guys as well.
Bud: Oh, do you?
Rebecca: John came up with this idea before we left home that we wanted to leave something with our relatives other than just good memories, so we decided to come up with this keychain.
It's a tree.
Bud: Oh, that's awesome.
John: There's branches going in all directions, but our roots always stay the same.
We have a keychain for every relative that we will meet along this race.
Dan: Back in the South...
Team Blue, Michael and Dylan, snap some family photos and reflect on Michael finding his brother, Ronnie.
Michael: So we got up this morning.
Me and my brother, his family, my son, we all decided to take some polaroids together.
Big smiles.
We took some selfies.
We took some individual shots with each other and it was a lot of fun.
[laughter] Michael: It was a great bonding moment for sure.
[phone dings] Phone's ringing.
[intense music] [phone dings] We're getting a call...
Text from Dan.
Here we go!
"Good morning, teams, and welcome to Day 3 of 'Relative Race.'
Team Red will be traveling to Brookings, Oregon.
Blue will be traveling to Peachtree City, Georgia.
Team Black will be traveling to Idaho Falls, Idaho.
And Team Green will be traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana."
[cheering] John: Today's first prize winner will receive a police escort from your challenge to your relative or a Day 10 benefit.
Your time starts now.
We'll talk later.
Win the race today.

So we're running out this morning and Sherry comes out and says, "Hey!
I'll lead you out."
So we get behind her and we're gone.
Go, go, go, go, go, go!
We gotta go.
Let's get you guys on the road.
Morgan: After winning yesterday, I definitely feel confident.
Yeah, there is a fire over in the Ochaco.
Troy: Oh, well that's all right.
I know how to fight 'em.
[laughs] Troy: Now we're interested to see.
Hopefully it won't cost us too many delays, but we'll try to take the safest, quickest route.
Rebecca: Now that we've had a little bit of a taste of that strike, we gotta get serious.
We gotta get down to business.
Okay, let's go.
[heroic music] [music intensifies] It's now Day 3 of "Relative Race."
All of our teams continue to race across the country along different paths, each team looking for new relatives, each in a different location, all of them with their eyes set on the finish line, this season, in an undisclosed location.
At the start of the race three days ago in Washington, D.C., all of the teams surrendered their smartphones and all use of technology in exchange for paper maps and flip phones-- No GPS or internet access.
Now they're headed to a new city.
They must take a selfie to prove that they made it, successfully complete a set of challenges, and discover their new relatives, each within a different allotted time.
The team that goes over their allotted time the most will receive a strike.
Three strikes and you're out of the race.
Welcome to Day 3 of "Relative Race."
♪ I'm really happy that the weather is somewhat calm right now.
I know.
Dan: After several days of severe weather, the sun is finally shining, and Team Green, sisters Jamie and Morgan, are racing to New Orleans, Louisiana.
With challenges and navigation factored in, the girls have the shortest allotted time of the day, at two hours and 46 minutes.
Oh...
Which really makes you appreciate GPS.
Dylan: I can't wait to use it again.
I don't have to look at maps ever again.
Dan: Close by, Team Blue, the father and son duo, are headed south to Peachtree City, Georgia.
Their allotted time is four hours and two minutes.
Oh look!
Only 113 miles.
John: To Twin Falls.
We're going to Idaho.
Idaho Falls.
Okay, never mind.
[chuckles] Scratch that.
Dan: In Idaho, Team Black, John and Rebecca, are headed to Idaho Falls.
Their allotted time is four hours and 23 minutes.
Yesterday was rough with all that construction.
I think we'll be okay.
We just can't goof up on our challenges and we can't goof up on finding our relative's house.
Nicole: Ooh, look at that sun!
It's a sign, babe.
The sky is red means today is Team Red's day.
Yeah!
Dan: A red sky means fires are in the forecast for Team Red as Troy and Nicole race down the smoky coast to Brookings, Oregon.
With challenges and driving factored in, they have the longest allotted time of the day, at four hours and 39 minutes.
There's certainly fires going on right now, but I think going this way, this direct way, west to the coast as quick as we possibly can, will help avoid some of those wildfires.
Dan: All four teams are on the open road.
[upbeat music] So, so far in our book, we've got the first page we've filled up and the second page filled up with pictures.
I had been petrified my whole life to dig further into my family because we never talked about it and it was something that...
It was hush-hush, we don't speak about those things, it's not something important.
And now, I feel that it's important and I want to find my family.
I think this is going to be something that I'll probably be looking at on the plane ride home when we eventually get home.
It's been a pretty cool experience.
Pretty cool.
Dan: As Rebecca reflects how quickly her family tree is beginning to grow, Team Blue realizes they're in trouble.
Michael: Eighty-one?
This is mile 59!
No way.
This-- No, hold on now.
We're from North Carolina.
I know the mountains somewhat pretty well.
She did not give us correct directions.
I had a feeling we should have gone a different direction and gone west to start.
I mean, we're really going the exact opposite way we need to be going right now.
Dan: While Team Blue recalculates their route, John takes advantage of texting to provoke the competition.
[phone dings] Jamie: Oh, we got a text.
They say, "Congrats on the big win!
"We had to give everyone a little hope, "but we got that out of our system.
So watch out!"
It was actually really sweet because it started out saying they were actually happy for us that we got first place, and they just wanted to give us a little bit of hope.
We're going to be good sports, but this is a race, so we also added in eh, they better not get too used to it because it might be the last time they take first.
"But seriously we are happy for you.
How did you like that prize?"
I want them to kind of think that we got something else so if they're like, oh, we got this coin and we don't know what it's for, then we can be like, oh, all you got's a coin?
Okay, I see what you're playing at.
Jamie:Do I just say "Thanks, y'all"?
I'm not telling them about our prize.
I don't even have time to act like I'm going to be spilling any secrets, so I just said, "Thank you so much."
We also texted Team Red.
All right, we got a new text.
It looks like Team Black probably talking smack.
And so I'm going to say, um, "Surfin' the coast the whole way."
Yeah.
You know, we need to text Team Blue too because I-- John: Staying quiet.
Yeah, they're staying quiet.
Dan: But Team Blue has their hands full after some poor directions from Michael's sister-in-law.
Oh, I know where she's taking us.
I know exactly where we're going.
Ronnie's wife gave us some very specific turn-by-turn directions.
But I chose to take about 40 miles off of what she had us doing.
I know exactly where we're at.
Is it bad?
There was another way.
Let's just say that.
Dan: As teams near their destination cities...
Right here, look at this!
Yeah.
Dan: Communication becomes key.
Turn around and go the better way!
Dan: And family ties are put to the test.
[intense music] Michael: Are you kidding me, man?
[music ends] [dramatic music] Dan: Day 3 of "Relative Race" is heating up as all three teams arrive and have successfully taken their city selfies.
[camera shutter clicks] [camera shutter clicks] [camera shutter clicks] Dan: But Team Blue's communication is falling apart.
Michael: Stay here.
As soon as we can turn around, we're going back to that thing that says Peachtree Church.
All right, go through this parking lot.
Turn right right now.
Yes, turn right.
What are you doing?
Dylan: You just said go that way.
Don't you tell me you didn't just say that.
Are you kidding me, man?
Michael: Why are we sitting still?
Dylan: You said to go this way.
Michael: Why are we sitting-- Dylan: What do you want me to do?
Michael: Turn around and go the better way!
Why is that such a hard concept?
Dylan: Gosh!
Michael: Things got a little bit heated.
Father, son in a car, not knowing where we're going.
It's going to happen.
At the end of the day, we're still father and son.
Doesn't matter what we go through.
We're still father and son.
I have to apologize to you.
If I get on you a little bit more than I think I should or you think I should, I don't mean nothing by it.
Mm-hmm.
Michael: But I love you, son, and I'm happy you're here.
That's my favorite part of the journey, son.
You're with me doing this together.
We had a little misunderstanding.
I love my dad and we're here for each other.
Michael: Here we go!
So we park the car, we run over to the sign and then we realize it's really low.
Oh boy.
Lay down.
Lay down!
So we have to lay down in front of the sign in wet, muddy grass.
Do it one more time.
[camera shutter clicks] Michael: We get it done and we just lay in the wet grass waiting for the text back from Dan.
[phone dings] "Welcome to Peachtree City!
Your first challenge"-- So we get the text, we run up, we start running to the car, and I get a cramp in my leg.
I got a cramp!
Come on, you can do it.
I got a cramp.
Come on.
I know it hurts.
I got a cramp.
Dylan: Come on.
A few more feet.
[groaning] Dylan: I could for sure see, um, him limping.
His leg is definitely hurting him and slowing down a little.
I have to help him out, get to the car.
Help the old man with his old problems.
It's-- Dylan: Yeah, I could see it affecting him.
Michael: I'm falling apart.
Dan: As Team Blue hobbles off, three other teams enter challenge mode.
[intense music] Open it!
Open it!
Okay.
Nicole: Slide puzzle.
Dan: Today's first challenge is a slide puzzle.
Teams will work together to unscramble a large 15-piece puzzle.
Pieces must be slid into the correct place to uncover a photo of the relative they are about to meet.
"Your allotted time for the day includes 20 minutes to complete this challenge."
Okay, let's go.
All right, here we go.
[music ends] [whistle blows] Okay, quick, quick, quick, quick, quick.
Okay.
So we've got to find upper right.
Start with eyeballs, right?
Okay.
That's the top of the head.
Nicole: Mm-hmm.
It's going to be a matter of just getting this-- Troy: And this is going to be in the middle.
Okay, we've got to get this.
Start getting this down first.
Nicole: The challenge is a slide puzzle to make the face of a relative.
Troy: It was chopped up in little pieces and we could only slide it to get it to the right spots.
Let me hold this.
Yeah.
All right.
Oh gosh.
Okay, what-- This.
Both: Yeah.
We see a bunch of blocks.
Jamie: And first we're like, "not blocks again," but I knew exactly what kind of puzzle it was.
I do these kind of puzzles all the time on my phone, so I was very prepared.
Okay, we're good, we're good, we're good.
John: As long as we keep the face there.
We need to get this over here and this over here, so... As soon as I see it, I'm like, "We got this."
We got this.
He has got this.
I have a very analytical mind and I love puzzles.
I've done lots of slide puzzles in my life and so when I saw it, I was like, man, we can nail this challenge.
Rebecca: So I stepped back because I knew if I tried to help him, I would screw him up.
Keep going.
Okay, wait a second.
Wait a second.
What?
Nicole: This ear needs to be here.
Troy: Baby, don't switch right now.
Nicole: Okay.
Don't switch right now.
It has to-- Because you can't switch.
This ear needs to be right here.
So we got halfway through that, got almost the entire face, but we had one ear in the wrong corner and the empty space in the wrong corner.
This needs to go-- This is right.
Morgan: Yeah, and this goes here, right?
Yep.
Ah!
Good.
Yay!
[laughs] Okay, all right.
Dan: As three teams slide their pieces into place, Team Blue is still cramped up and limping into challenge one.
Oh-ho-ho, still got a cramp!
Come on.
I still got a cramp.
Come on.
Go without me!
Leave me behind.
No.
Oh, I got a cramp again.
[groaning] This cramp is a real problem.
I remember playing this game as a child.
I never got it.
[Dylan groans] This is the worst.
Oh, no, no.
No, no, no.
No, no, no.
And just think there's other teams out there doing challenges.
They could be doing the same thing we're doing.
Having the same issues.
[rock music] Done!
Nicole: Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Over, over, over.
Done.
Troy: Done!
[rock music continues] We did it.
Oh!
That's a face.
Yeah, we did it.
Jamie: We did it.
We're done!
[tears envelope open] Okay, read it, read it, read it, read it, read it, read it.
John: All right.
"Your relative is trying to stay awake for your arrival.
"Now that you know what she looks like, go find her!"
Take a picture of her in case we forget.
Get the phone out, get the phone out.
Rebecca: Do you have it?
Where is it?
Take a picture of her.
[camera shutter clicks] She's trying to stay awake.
Okay.
Jamie: All right.
"Now that you know what your relative looks like, "head to Bourbon street and find her.
"You must stay together.
"Listen closely and don't hesitate to look inside.
"Your allotted time for today includes ten minutes to complete this challenge."
Ten minutes!
Oh my gosh.
Jamie: Got it.
Let's run to Bourbon Street.
Morgan: Okay, yeah, all right.
Troy: Head towards the Pacific.
That's the Pacific.
And find him.
Nicole: Which way you want to go?
So look around.
What do we see?
I see a coffee shop.
That keeps you awake.
Should we check that one first?
Yeah, yeah.
Rebecca: Let's go check it.
John: The card says your relative is trying to stay awake while waiting for you.
Immediately Rebecca says "coffee shop" and right across the street was the coffee shop.
There was a coffee shop and we immediately ran over to check and see if maybe she was inside.
Rebecca: Hi.
We're looking for somebody with blonde hair.
Is there someone with blonde hair in here?
Morgan: What's this?
There's no one in there.
So we get on Bourbon Street and there is so much going on.
Jamie: Yeah.
Morgan: And we were like, it doesn't matter.
We're going to go to every restaurant, every shop we can find, and we're going to find our relative, whatever it takes.
Nicole: Go, go.
I'm coming!
But don't go too far ahead-- We've got to stay together.
Okay, let's, um...
There's a health place up here.
You want to check that?
Health place?
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess.
Come on.
Rebecca: Okay.
Let's go.
[intense music] Jamie: Hey, we're looking for our cousin.
Have you seen her?
She looks like us.
All right.
Morgan: Okay.
Dan: From Bourbon Street to the beach to bolting through Idaho Falls, the chase is on to find the relative in the puzzle.
Meanwhile, Michael and Dylan are just plain stumped.
Mmm.
Nyeh, nyeh, nyeh.
[sighs] Dylan: Oof.
I don't like this.
[guitar music] John: Here's another coffee house over here.
You want to try that?
Rebecca: Yeah, let's cross.
Idaho Falls is a pretty small town.
We go into the second coffee shop... Rebecca: She's there, she's there!
I found her.
John: And bingo.
Hi!
Hi.
I'm Rebecca.
Nice to meet you.
This is John.
John: Can we take a selfie with you real quick?
Tanya: Yeah, absolutely.
[camera shutter clicks] Dan: Team Black is the first team to find their relative and their clock is stopped.
[intense music] Bourbon Street is huge.
It seems like it goes on and on forever in every direction.
Jamie: Yeah.
I don't think she's this way.
Nicole: I'm looking at this man.
I'm like, I can find him because he reminds me of Troy.
They had so much family resemblance.
Troy: Are you our relative?
Nicole: We initially thought it was a poor guy that we tried to whistle out of the ocean.
Um, but he wasn't that guy, so-- [laughs] Troy: There was a lot of people on the beach and we were just grabbing anybody we could.
Yeah.
[intense music] Jamie: Hi, we're looking for our cousin.
A young black girl.
Have you seen her?
Morgan: Really?
Oh my gosh!
Jamie: Oh my gosh.
Hi!
Okay, okay, uh.
Morgan: We've got to get a picture.
[camera shutter clicks] Troy: I think you're one of our relatives.
Can I get a selfie real quick?
Man 1: Yes.
Troy: Come on up.
Come on.
Woman 1: Are you Troy?
Troy: I am Troy.
Hold on, let me get this side.
This is my best side right here.
This is my best side.
Come on, come on.
Get in there.
One, two, three.
[camera shutter clicks] Dan: Teams Green and Red are the second and third teams to find their relatives.
Their clocks are also stopped.
That only leaves one team left, Team Blue, who is still struggling on their puzzle.
Michael: Well, I think the most frustrating part of that challenge is the fact that you had to treat it like chess.
You had to think moves ahead because what you do one is going to affect three moves down the road.
Dylan: Eventually, we got it.
The more you work at something, you're going to get it.
Michael: Hold it, hold it, hold it.
Hold it!
[sighs in relief] [laughs] So we finish the challenge and the card says go jump in the golf cart and go look for your relative, who's located on a disc golf course five minutes from where you're at, if that.
Dylan: You can lean on me.
Go, go, go, go.
Come on, you can do it.
[Michael groans] Come on.
You got it.
Michael: Here we go, we're getting on the golf cart.
We just hit the pedal and went and we're looking for our relative.
All right, golf course is on the right, so let's keep looking over that way.
Ow, ow.
You've got a five-- You've got five minutes to find him, so we start looking.
We're both just scanning everywhere.
What did help us a little bit is the fact there was no disc golf course on the left side, so everything's on the right, so that helped narrow the search down.
Both: Oh, there he is.
Dylan: That has to be him.
Careful.
♪ Michael: Are you my relative?
[music ends] [dramatic music] Dan: Day 3 of "Relative Race" reaches its halfway point.
Done!
Dan: After some clever thinking... Oh, that's her.
That's a face.
Dan: and a quick dash... Rebecca: She's there, she's there!
I found her.
Troy: One, two, three.
[camera shutter clicks] Dan: three teams have found their relatives, leaving only Team Blue left to clock in.
Michael: Are you my relative?
I am.
Michael.
Nice to meet you.
It's nice to meet you.
I'm Jim.
This is my son.
Michael: Dylan.
My son.
Dylan: Nice to meet you.
I'm Jamie.
Dylan: Hi, nice to meet you.
Michael: Awesome to meet you.
Jim: Great.
Uh, do you guys need a selfie or something?
Oh, yes!
Dylan: Oh, we totally forgot.
Get that.
Michael: Get in tight, get in tight.
Big smiles.
[camera shutter clicks] Dan: Team Blue's clock has stopped.
Now that all teams have found their relatives, the results can be calculated while teams unwind and explore their new connections.
So how are we related?
Jim: Well, we're cousins in one generation and Jamie and Dylan are cousins in the next generation.
That's awesome.
Michael: It was really cool to meet another father- son connection.
Dylan: Yeah, to hear our connection is two generations with my dad and I-- That's something we haven't seen before.
Hi, I'm Jim.
And I'm his son Jamie, and we're the Walkers.
And we're Michael and Dylan's cousins.
So the reason why you're on a golf cart is here in Peachtree City, anywhere you go, you can get there on a golf cart.
Really?
Jim: It's the really great thing about this city.
Wow.
That is awesome.
Michael: Jim is telling me his town has golf cart paths all over.
I cannot wait to hear about this.
[groans] I've got a major cramp in my leg.
Jim: Uh-oh.
Dan: As Team Blue scoots off to see what their cousins have in store... John and Rebecca learn how they are related to their newest family member.
Rebecca: When we get up to the coffee shop, the woman who comes out, she introduces herself as my relative.
On what side of the family?
Your dad's side.
I'm Tanya, your second cousin.
I'm Tanya Covert.
I'm a healthcare recruiter.
I live here in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with my husband, Keel, and I am Rebecca's second cousin on her dad's side.
So you're my first relative that we've been able to meet on my dad's side of the family, then, in this race.
Tanya: Yes, that's right!
Rebecca: I'm so happy to meet you.
Tanya: Nice to meet you.
It was really fun to meet Rebecca for the first time.
I didn't even know about her before this show, and it's just so great to be able to meet relatives that you didn't know anything about before.
I've thought a lot about meeting relatives on my dad's side.
It's a surprise and still just as much of a joy to meet somebody on my dad's side of the family.
While it may not be an immediate uncle or a cousin, it certainly is still special because they have a piece of that family history that I don't have.
Tanya: Well, so I have a fun activity planned for you guys, so you ready to go?
Rebecca: Yeah, we'll give you a ride.
John: Absolutely.
Tanya: Okay, great.
Awesome.
Rebecca: We've got to go find our car again.
Dan: As Team Black heads off for an evening with Rebecca's new cousin, Tanya, Team Green finds a musical connection.
[jazz music] Jamie: Hi, I'm Jamie, by the way.
Keanna: Keanna.
Jamie: Keanna, nice to meet you.
Hi, I'm Morgan.
Keanna: Morgan.
I'm Keanna.
Jamie: Nice to finally meet you.
Keanna: I'm Keanna O'Quinn.
I'm a professional singer and I'm Jamie and Morgan's cousin.
We're also musicians.
Amazing!
Morgan: Yeah, that's our jobs and we travel doing music and-- You're kidding.
Keanna: When I first found out that Jamie and Morgan are professional singers too, I almost didn't believe it.
I thought that I was, like, the only singer in my family.
I had no idea that anyone in my family worked in music at all.
Jamie: So do you tour with a band or are you a solo artist?
Keanna: Yes, I have a band.
My band's name is "Honey and Vinyl."
♪ I've done the White House correspondence dinner.
I sang for George Lucas' wedding.
Jamie: What?
Keanna: It's just so refreshing to meet the girls and to learn that our experiences and our careers are so similar.
Jamie: We can share.
We can collaborate.
Keanna: Yes.
Jamie: That's the purpose of family.
Keanna: Actually, I'm glad that you said that.
I have some fun things planned that we can get into if you guys are-- Jamie: I'm excited.
I love fun things to get into.
Keanna: Awesome.
Morgan: Okay.
Sounds great.
Keanna: So, let's go.
Morgan: All right.
♪ Dan: Back on the beach in Oregon...
Troy: You're my second cousin?
Man 1: Yes, sir.
Troy: All right, what's up?
What's up?
[laughter] Ron: Hi, I'm Ron Pletcher.
Renee: And I'm Renee Pletcher.
Ron: I work in geosciences and I'm Troy's second cousin.
This is my daughter, Samantha.
Troy: Samantha, Troy.
Samantha: Hi, nice to meet you.
Troy: Ron and his family seem great and I'm looking forward to learning more about our connection, but in the meantime, Ron surprised me with something I really love, and that's fishing.
[rock music] Troy: It was definitely a surprise to go fishing today.
It's going to be exciting.
I'm excited to drop some bait in the water and catch a fish.
There you go, babe.
Right there, that's you.
That's you, babe.
I helped Nicole drop her line, I go to my pole to drop mine and no sooner than I drop mine, Ron, "Fish on!"
Rom immediately gets a fish.
Renee: Put your back into it!
[shouting excitedly] Troy: Oh, he got two!
He got two of 'em!
Samantha: Shut up!
Come on.
Man 2: There you go!
Oh yeah!
Troy: Not one, but two on the same line.
That was awesome.
Nicole: I think I got a fish.
Samantha: Yay!
Troy: Whoo!
Good job, babe.
Nicole: I'm real!
[laughs] Troy: I think I got a fish.
Nicole: You got one, babe?
Troy: I think so, yep.

I was really happy that every one of us had a fish in the boat.

[rock music continues] [rock music ends] [upbeat music] Michael: How long has this maze of golf cart paths been?
Jim: Well, um, Peachtree City was founded back in the late '60s, early '70s.
Michael: After we met our cousins Jim and Jamie, they put us in a golf cart because their whole community is based around golf carts, golf paths.
The design of Peachtree City is kind of unique because from the very founding of the city, from the very beginning, they decided that they were going to have a series, a network of golf cart paths that would enable people on a bicycle or on a golf cart to get from just about anywhere in the city from A to B. Jim: There's really-- You know, they want you to use a path whenever you can, right?
Michael: Of course, yes.
Jim: But there's really only like four roads in the entire city that isn't kind of golf cart-friendly.
Michael: You can take your golf cart to school, to work.
It's a whole network of golf paths.
It's absolutely fascinating to me.
I've never seen anything like it.
Fascinating.
That's just fascinating.
[music ends] [guitar music] Rebecca: My cousin Tanya takes us to her favorite spot in town.
it's this pottery place where you create and paint your own art.
We, um, decided to do the family for our living room.
Since this whole adventure is about family, we decided to go ahead and paint something that we can add to our living room.
Tanya, my second cousin, she chose a horse figurine for our daughter, Parker.
Tanya:Isn't that the cutest little horse for your daughter?
Rebecca: Oh, she's going to love it.
Tanya: Their little girl is going to be turning four and I suggested that we paint something for her.
Rebecca: So, this has been so much fun.
Thank you, we really appreciate this.
When we met Tanya today, I instantly fell in love with her.
She is happy to be around, she makes me feel happy.
I was so stress-free when we were with her today.
Tanya: I always, whenever I go somewhere, I always have to bring back something for my kiddos.
Rebecca: With my dad in jail for murder, I knew there was a chance that we'd meet someone on his side of the family, and my cousin, Tanya, she's so sweet.
And I'm really anxious to find out where our connection is.
Dan: Back in New Orleans, Team Green is in for a little treat.
Jamie: She tells us that she has a surprise for us and we get excited because first of all, we know that it's not a challenge, so we don't have to do any more running.
We walk to go and get-- Morgan: Yes, beignets.
Jamie: Which we'd never had before.
Morgan: Neither one of us have ever had.
Keanna: You guys, you can't come to New Orleans and not have beignets.
Jamie: Oh my gosh, yes.
I've never had a beignet before.
Keanna: I took them to the Cafe Du Monde for some beignets and you cannot be in New Orleans and not indulge a little bit, especially with family that you're meeting for the first time.
These are unforgettable experiences and memories that can't be replaced, so I think it's okay to have a little sweet here and there.
All right, girls, you ready?
Jamie and Morgan: Yes.
Jamie: What is-- Okay, what is a beignet?
Is this like a breaded pastry?
Keanna: Basically, yes.
I feel like it's just dough.
Jamie: Yeah.
A beignet is basically like a small little fried piece of dough covered in powdered sugar, and it was so good.
It's actually good.
Morgan: It's really good.
Jamie: Yeah, I'm down with that.
Good job, New Orleans.

Morgan: We are so glad to be able to have this New Orleans experience with our cousin, who also does music.
Jamie: Yeah.
It's just-- Morgan: It's awesome.
Jamie: It was just what I wanted.

Michael: So as soon as I saw it was an escape room, which involves puzzles and hidden things and keys and combinations-- We've been doing that all day long, and I was like "Oh, no."
Jim: Michael, this is my wife, Donna.
Michael: Nice to meet you.

This is my son, Dylan.
Dylan: Hi.
Hi, nice to meet you.
Jim: All right, we're here at Mastermind Escape Rooms and-- Jamie: And we as a family love escape games and we wanted to share that with you guys, our cousins.
Jim: Come on, let's go inside and let's get going.
Michael: Let's go.
Worker: Oh, wow!
I'm glad you guys are here.
I'm Uncle Orrick's apprentice and I really need your help in getting him back.
I think he's been kidnapped by an evil wizard and poisoned.
Can you all help me do that?
All: Yes.
Worker: Okay, follow me right this way.
Michael: Wow.

I really tried at the start, but I was completely useless.
[mystical music ends] [whimsical music] Dylan: They took us to an escape room, which is a puzzle-solving game where they lock you in a room and you have to solve several puzzles.
Michael: And riddles.
Dylan: Riddles and problems to find a way out.
Michael: R, S. Nope.
I really tried at the start, but it was really, really fun to watch everybody, how they work together solving these problems and see my son just get in it like-- I mean, it was so much fun to watch, but I was completely useless.
Girl 1: It's a door.
We're going to Narnia.
Jamie: Oh.
Wow, that's awesome.
All right, let's go.
Dylan: My cousin Jamie loves escape rooms.
I love escape rooms.
We worked so well together.
Jamie: We hung around each other during the escape game.
He would be like, "Oh, here's this number.
It's on the pad," and stuff like that, and I'd be like, I'd go and put it into a lock.
Dylan: Four-nine-eight-two.
Jamie: Four-nine-eight-two?
Dylan: Yeah.
Jamie: We just put things together and it was just-- It was kind of cool.
Girl 1: Mike, do you want to do the honors?
Michael: No, no, I'm just watching.
[laughs] I'm out of my element.
Dylan: So there was stuff everywhere scattered about and we eventually got them where they needed to be and we got out.
[lock clicks] Michael: Hey!
Don't push it back.
Dylan: I loved it.
I loved every second of it.
Yay!
We did it.

Jamie: And after that, we went and we celebrated our success and took a picture and it was great.
[music ends] Dan: In Idaho Falls, Team Black is about to check off a bucket list item.
Rebecca: This is a nice RV.
Tanya: Yeah.
It's where you get to stay!
Rebecca: All right!
Tanya, when we came here, showed us this RV where we will be staying tonight.
Little did she know that I've always wanted one of these and wanted to stay in one of them, so this will be my first time and I'm a little bit excited.
[chuckles] Wow, this is big!
It's like a house.
John: This place is huge.
Rebecca: So we walk in the RV and it is so much bigger than I thought it would be.
It's like, bigger than a studio apartment.
I did not expect it to be that nice.
Oh, does this get bigger too?
Tanya: Yeah.
[gasps] Ooh.
Tanya: Be careful, John.
She's going to want one.
Rebecca: I already want one.
John: Oh, it's going to be very comfy.
It's nicer than most hotels we've stayed in.
Mm-hmm.
So I think we'll be very happy hanging out in the RV tonight.
Rebecca: And we get to sleep here.
Tanya: Yes.
Rebecca: This is like a dream come true.

Ron: Well, let me show you the man cave/guest house.
This is where you guys will be staying.

Troy: Oh.
Nicole: We have a car in here too?
Ron: Yep.
Troy: There's a car in the middle of this.
Ron's man cave... Well, Ron loves to collect things.
Ron: I go to estate sales, garage sales, second-hand stores just finding things that are odd, unusual, and unique.
What's going on with this Camaro right here?
Well, it's just sitting waiting for me to get some money together to restore it properly.
Wow.
But yeah, I've had it for about twenty years.
Troy: And something about horsepower and speed and just the history of cars-- This, for me, is just what I was brought up with.
The funny thing is, it only has about 104,000 miles on it.
Troy: The crazy part is he got it for a thousand bucks, and it's worth a heck of a lot more than that just as it sits without us touching it, so it's an exciting project.
Did you just say "without us touching it"?
Yeah, us.
It's our project.
It's Ron and our's project now.
Oh.

Dan: While Troy and Ron bond over their love for muscle cars, Jamie and Morgan jam with their new cousin, Keanna.

I had no idea that anyone in my family worked in music at all.

Dan: Meanwhile, Rebecca and Tanya explore their connection through Rebecca's father.
We are second cousins.
This is your grandma.
This is my grandfather.
I'm related to Rebecca by our grandparents.
Your grandmother and my grandfather were brother and sister.
So have you, like, looked into your dad's family at all to-- Rebecca: He married my mother, Karen, and then when I was two, she passed away-- Some unfortunate events-- And my father remarried my stepmother, Susan, and he ended up killing her and he was imprisoned for the rest of his life.
Tanya: Did you know much about his side of the family?
No.
He-- After he left, you know, we didn't-- We lost contact.
I didn't talk to my dad probably 'til I was about 18 and when I started asking him questions, most of his answers were he didn't remember or it was so long ago, so I couldn't get answers from him, and by the time I was old enough to start wondering about that, my grandmother had Alzheimer's.
When I heard your story, I thought about how hard it would be to have-- Be so young and not lose just one mommy, but two.
I think that's probably why you're a great mommy and want to stay home with Parker.
Rebecca: Yes.
I didn't ever feel that I could run home and sit down with my mom and tell her all the wonderful things that happened at school or all the terrible things and I needed advice and she-- She wasn't there.
There were other wonderful mother figures in my life, but it's not the same not having your mom.
[upbeat music] Michael: How are we related?
Jim: As it turns out, um, who you're related to is a fairly famous man.
Michael: Okay, now you have me really intrigued.
Jamie: This is who you're related to.
Michael: Elvis Presley.
Dylan: Elvis Presley?
Jamie: Yes.
Dylan: Seriously?
What?
[laughs] Michael: We found out we were a cousin of Elvis Presley himself.
Dylan: When I was in elementary school and I learned Pressler, I got confused with Elvis Presley, so I went around telling everyone I was related to Elvis.
Turns out... [laughs] Everyone called me a liar and-- I guess I wasn't lying.
That is so cool.
Michael: I found out that I was related to Elvis Presley.
I mean, come on.
I mean, you think of all the cool people that have lived on this planet.
Elvis Presley.
[imitates Elvis] Thank you, thank you very much.
[laughter] [music ends] Dan: Back in Oregon, Troy and Ron make a discovery that goes deeper than their common interests.
I just found out that you were adopted-- I was.
Troy: By your stepfather.
Troy: Did you know that I was adopted by my stepfather too?
I heard something like that.
What a coincidence, huh?
Troy: Today I learned that, um, Ron and I... Well, not only love cars, but, um, we were both adopted.
Yeah, I was adopted when I was-- I think I was about one and a half years old.
Wow, that's-- That's soon.
For he and I both to have similarities in regards to the, uh, the adoption and then we both have a blank side when it comes to our connection.
I'm filling in the blanks.
Haven't really quite built my tree yet.
You've got to piece it together.
Piece it together.
And that's exactly what I'm doing.
Ron: Everybody that you find, you find for me, you know?
Troy: Yeah.
Ron:I mean, you know, you're finding them for both of us.
His journey's so important because it's like doing it for me as well because they're going to be my relatives too.
You guys are wonderful people and I can't tell you how happy I am to meet you both.
It's been great talking to you about this, but I know you're hungry, you've had a long day.

[music ends] Dan: In Idaho, Rebecca's connection with her dad's side of the family deepens.
After talking with Tanya, I discovered that my grandmother Martha had a bunch of siblings and there's so much more family I didn't know about.
Tanya: To hear Rebecca's story is one of the reasons that I decided to come on the show.
And even though there's a history there, I kind of, you know...
When Rebecca and I were talking earlier, we were kind of talking about how you can't make your past.
It's your past.
And you can either let it make you or break you, and I think that she's let it make her.
Rebecca: This is why I love you, because this-- This is me.
You get it.
Tanya: Yeah!
Rebecca: You get it.

In all reality, I think my dad didn't tell us a lot about our family tree for both-- Two reasons.
One, I think that maybe he wasn't as observant about family and it wasn't as important to him as I feel that it is to me.
And second, I think he didn't want to tell me something and I don't know what that is and I don't know why, but...
I hope to find out in the future, but...
It doesn't make a difference to me either way.
I'm finding my family.
♪ Dan: As Day 3 comes to a close, results are being tallied.
Michael: Just knowing the call from Dan is looming tonight, it's nerve-wracking.
Jamie: We know that anything can happen in this game.

Troy: If someone's going to beat us, they're going to beat us, but it's really just to get through the whole race so we can connect all the dots and keep filling them in and going home early is not an option.

Morgan: It is possible that we did not get first place, but I will say if we get a strike today, if we come in last, I'm going to be shocked because I feel like we did very good.
John: I think we crushed our challenges today.
I'm not sure how everybody else did, but I'm feeling pretty confident.
Michael: I have no idea what the results are going to be.
You never know what the results are going to be.
All you can do is the best you can do and hope for the best.
[sighs in exasperation] Michael: We did well on most of what we did today.

Team Red, you had a beautiful route today.
Team Black, um, we're going to talk about a day that seemed to go well for you.

First of all, I want to talk about challenge number one, the puzzle.
Team Blue, Michael, Dylan, what happened, guys?
Michael: It just didn't start well, it didn't end well.
Dan: So it was kind of a tough challenge and a cramp.
Michael: Yes.
I got a cramp!
Come on, you can do it.
I got a cramp!
[groaning] I got a cramp.
We found a sign when we got to where we were at, so we laid on the ground on wet, muddy grass ground to take a selfie.
We got up to run back to the car, and all of a sudden my right leg just cramped up, and it's been cramped all day long.
Morgan: A cramp.
Really?
How do you even get one of those?
Uh, let's turn our attention to the Hitts because your cousin last night, Troy, was a firefighter, and you had to skirt a big wildfire today, but your cousin gave you some advice.
Do you feel that possibly saved you from a strike?
Troy: It did, absolutely.
Roberta was awesome and I respect all the firefighters that are out there fighting these wildfires right now a little bit more than I did before, I promise.
Dan: I want to talk about family once again because Rebecca, you've been having some amazing discoveries on your mother's side.
You have what I think is fair to say is a complicated relationship with your father.
Rebecca: Yes, I have.
And it's led to very few answers on your father's side as well, some challenges.
What happened today?
Who did you find?
Rebecca: Today on "Relative Race," I found the first relative on my father's side.
She is my second cousin.
What was that like for you?
Rebecca: It was really great.
It-- You know, it turned into just this happy moment.
She's such a bubbly person and her-- Her spirit lifted me and I didn't feel that we had ever not known each other.
She gave me so much information and was able to give me family names and who was related to who and how we go back and the night was all laughs and smiles and it couldn't have ended any better.
Dan: Well, that is a perfect segue into Team Green because much of that story was your story today.
Who did you meet today in New Orleans and how did you feel connected?
Jamie: Yeah, today we met our cousin, Keanna, and not only were we connected in the way that all three of us are singers who travel and have a lot in common as far as our jobs and our passions, but we also were able to look at the family tree and see exactly how we were connected.
Morgan: And it's not far.
Jamie: At all.
It was amazing.
[dramatic music] So let's remind everybody who has strikes at this point.

Who's going to come out on top?
Who's going to pick up another strike or perhaps their first?

That police escort sounds amazing.
But we're going to Day 10, so we're going to take the Day 10 prize.

Team Green, you finished in third.

It's my competitive side and I needed it.
It's got to be good.
We got the coin and we still don't know what it means, but the fact that we got two gives me hope that it's really going to help us on Day 10.

Dan: Finishing in second, also under their allotted time by two minutes, is Team Red, Troy and Nicole.
I still feel on top.
We're the only team with no strike.
Dan: Coming in third, Team Green, sisters Jamie and Morgan, were exactly on their allotted time.

I think it's crazy we went that far.
I don't know what we did wrong.

The only thing I could think of is we could have gone a better route.

♪ Troy: Driving to Ron's house, we've been seeing smoke and fire in the skies everywhere for the past three days now.
Nicole: And tonight those fears became real.
News Anchor (Male): This is a high-priority wildfire and could be one of the worst in American history.
News Anchor (Female): The Eagle Creek fire has charred over 30,000 acres in the heart of Oregon's scenic Columbia River Gorge.
Today, it's considered the most threatening to public safety and property.
[sirens] Troy: And sure enough, the police rolled up to the house just as we were wrapping up for the night.
"An evacuation notice has been issued for this area.
You must prepare to leave at a moment's notice."
Troy: "This may be the only notice that you receive."
Samantha: Hey guys, sorry to interrupt.
Um, the sheriff actually just came by and gave us an emergency notice.
Troy: To see something this real and potentially devastating happen to a family member we just met...
It's a little hard to process.
They're really in danger.
Renee: It's amazing how you realize how unprepared you are for an emergency when something happens, so we are... We're preparing.
Nicole: They have, um, important stuff packed up in a travel trailer, but, I mean, this house.
How do you-- Troy: I mean, they've got to be on-- They've got to be on pins and needles because the whole house is made of wood.
Nicole: Yeah, how do you walk away from this?
I don't know.
We're just hoping we can make it through the night here.
It's that simple.
Troy: It's just really over the ridge.
It's just a matter of time.
